Being You

Understanding that you Never Lose By Giving is a crucial step towards achieving Peace and Harmony within.

Society, our parents and our religions have taught us to make sacrifices by giving things of value to others. We have been taught that it is our obligation and duty to give till it hurts. Only then is the giving blessed by God and appreciated by our fellow man.

That is so Wrong!

Let's look at sacrifice. By definition it evokes the thought of giving away something very valuable or to go without something. Many religious ceremonies require sacrifice, although Christ never suggested such a spirit of living as that. Sacrifice screams of LOSS and no matter how you try to convince yourself otherwise, Nobody Likes To Lose!

So, when you Sacrifice... when you feel you have given up something, you tend to feel something is owed to you like a blessing, a thank-you, respect, recognition, a smile, a favor, etc.. Regardless of how sincere your motivations, if you don't get back what you expected, even in the smallest degree, you get resentful against that which you made your sacrifice. The spirit of this whole scenario is simply no good.

True Giving has nothing to do with sacrifice. True giving has nothing to do with getting back, because it's impossible not to get back when you give. Please understand that you never lose anything when you give because it ALWAYS returns to you in some form or another. You can't make a sacrifice in giving since you can never lose a thing.

In the parable where the widow gave her last penny, it states that this was all she had and she was compared to a rich man who gave of the fat of his money only. Religions have twisted this parable to enforce the concept of sacrifice, in that you should give all you can to them. What this parable really says is that no matter what you give, it is the spirit in which you give that counts. Even if the rich man gave only a very small part of his riches, it would be a total blessing to him if he did it from his heart. It's not the amount or the percentage that counts.

Never give from fear of retribution or because somebody tells you that you are obligated to. Never give to please those around you or to gain recognition of your efforts. Never give your 10% because you are commanded to. God doesn't need your money. He created an entire universe. Do you think he needs your money to feed people or erect a building or cloth the poor? How small would he have to be to need us in this way?

We all assume the widow was making a sacrifice in giving all she had, but she was not. She gave out of her love for God and a true desire to help others. There was no sacrifice, only love. What can you have that is so rare and precious that God herself cannot create tons of it, if that were his desire. Why then would he need you to sacrifice? What do you possess that does not already exist beyond abundance in the universe our Lord has created?

It is never and has never been "how much you give", but "the spirit in which you give". God does not need your money, jewels, land, or any other possession, although your religions may have need of them. God is not a religion and does not exist in a building, but in all buildings and all creation.

Before you can truly give, you must love. When you love, you give because you have chosen to. You don't harbor a single thought that your recipient owes you a thing, yet you can acknowledge that your spirit of giving will return to you in another form, by another means, but it doesn't really matter to you. You just know.

Picture a ball, and imagine it suspended in the air, now imagine it were clear and now imagine it were made of water...an unbreakable, sphere of water. Think of that ball of water as our spiritual oneness, where each molecule represents a spirit and we are one with our creator and with each other. Imagine yourself as a spec of that water and you give something of yourself to another one of those specs of water. Nothing was lost. The ball neither gained nor lost anything in the transaction. The object only moved.

We are all one. Anything you do or give to another, you are also doing or giving to yourself. Anything you do or give to yourself, you are doing or giving to another. All our goals should be to strike a balance. If you have more of something than another, share it. You won't lose it. It's just placed where it is utilized better. Don't think of just physical things either. Share your abundance of happiness with those that have less. Share your knowledge with those that have less. Share your wisdom with those that have less.

To Give First, you Love First and give without effort and without reservation. You give because you choose to and because you desire the best for all those around you. You Give First, knowing you have not lost anything. We are one. What you give to another you give to yourself. Even Christ said, "What you do for the least of your brethren, you do for me also". That is because we are all one. He knew without question this was true . We all must work to know it too.
