The Children's Miracle Network (CMN) story at Geisinger is one of commitment to the health and well being of children. From specialized pediatric equipment to CMN-sponsored programs like Road Radio, which brings a powerful anti-drinking program to youngsters in middle schools and junior highs throughout the region, to specialty camps for kids suffering from cancer, kidney disease, spina bifida, and skin disorders, CMN celebrates the miracles made possible in children’s lives.
Over the last 18 years, CMN at Geisinger has been crucial in the healing of thousands of children suffering illness and trauma. CMN assists with newborns fighting for their lives on respirators, aids children battling traumatic injuries and helps those who must contend with chemotherapy treatments for cancer. It also supports children who must learn to confront conditions such as spina bifida, kidney disease, autism, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, and much more.
Much of the money raised through the combination of corporate, community, employee and individual support was raised year round $1 at a time. Whether it was through the sales of miracle balloons, Deli lunch meat, bake sales, dress-down days, basket bingos, or golf tournaments, each dollar raised directly benefits pediatric services for sick and injured children treated throughout Geisinger.
"It is heart warming to see individuals throughout this community reach deep into their pockets to ensure a better and brighter future for our children," said Dr. Michael Ryan, chairman of pediatrics for Geisinger Health System, and chairman of Children's Miracle Network Telethon.
Nationally, CMN benefits 170 affiliated children’s hospitals throughout the United States and Canada. CMN’s policy, to keep 100 percent of donations in the local CMN affiliated hospital where the money is pledged and to put children first in all that CMN does, has not wavered since its inception 20 years ago. All money contributed to CMN at Geisinger stays within Geisinger Health System.
More than $24 million has been raised during the past 19 years through Children's Miracle Network to support pediatric services at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, and more than 50 health groups throughout a 31-county area.
