Poem #1 - Poem #2 - Poem #3

Things Unseen

The yelling was like listening to an Opera,
Hers, soprano, soft at first but becoming stronger,
His bass, forceful and never ending.
But it is not an Opera,
Things are never what they seem.

Away from him she is an actress, not by profession, but by trade.
Away from him she is a makeup artist, not by profession, but by trade.
Away from him she is a mime, not by profession, but by trade.
When she became his wife she began trading a lot.
Trading dinner making for insults.
Trading her money for his wants.
Trading her beautiful body for a broken battered one.
Trading her dreams, her family, her friends, her li-,
No, not her life.
That is one thing he cannot, will not take.
The Opera was intensifying now, with him moving in closer as if to hug her,
Things are never what they seem.

She quickly backed up until she ran into something...A door.
In one deft movement she slid the key out of the deadbolt and slipped offstage.
She may have traded a lot not seen,
But things are never what they seem.
