Kaity's Craft Corner For Kids - Let's make a beautiful red, white, and blue Star Whirler. It is fun to make, as you will see, and it is a nice decoration for Independence Day.

Hello everyone! For this issue of Dreams Alive I have chosen to make a beautiful red, white, and blue Star Whirler. It is fun to make, as you will see, and it is a nice decoration for Independence Day.


Supplies and Tools - mirror, tools, supplies, star, whirler, scissors, floam, silver glitter,  gold glitter, ribbons, sponge paintbrush, blue acrylic paint, star stickers

Items you will need:

  1. Scissors
  2. 3 sheets of 8"x11" Foam: 1 red, 1 white, and 1 blue
  3. Silver or gold glitter
  4. 3 Ribbons 10" each: 1 red, 1 white, and 1 blue
  5. Sponge paintbrush
  6. Blue acrylic paint
  7. Small Star Stickers
  8. Wooden dowel (1/2 inch around and 1 foot long)
  9. Tacky Glue
  10. Star Pattern (CLICK HERE to print Star Pattern)


Step 1
1. First you take the wooden dowel and you paint it blue. Let this dry for an hour.


Step 2
2. CLICK HERE to print off the pattern of the star and cut out the star.


Step 3
3. Trace the star once onto each of the three sheets of foam ( Red, White, and Blue )


Step 4
4. Cut the stars out of the foam.


Step 5
5. On each of the three stars make designs or patterns with the tacky glue. Then sprinkle glitter (either  gold or silver ) onto the glue and shake off the excess. Let dry for at least one hour or until it is completely dry.


Step 6
6. While waiting for the glue to dry, sit back, relax, have some pizza.


Step 7
7. Take your star stickers and decorate the wooden dowel.


Step 8
8. When your stars are completely dry, take and glue one ribbon onto the back of each star. Let dry completely.


Step 9
9. Finally, tie the ends of the ribbons to the wooden dowel.

10. You have completed your beautiful and fun star whirler!

  • a rabbit (Thumper)
  • a hamster (Coully)

Josh Krysiak - PhotographerJosh Krysiak - Photographer - is 11 years old and lives in New Jersey. He enjoys photography because he loves the challenge of getting just the right photo. Sometimes he makes sports movies with his video camera. He likes to take nature photos the best and spends a lot of time outdoors hiking through the woods and studying nature in Pennsylvania where his grandparents live.
 
He also enjoy sports and his favorite new sport is street hockey, but he really enjoys playing on the traveling soccer team too. He also likes snow boarding, roller blading, golfing, riding his bike and scooter, playing the violin, guitar, and piano. His favorite subjects in school are Math and Science.
