Dream Weavers - We showcase not-for-profit organizations who's efforts and desires are to help those who are less fortunate and to help bring their Dreams Alive.

Dreams don't necessarily have to be the hope of something that may be achieved far down the road. Sometimes there just isn't enough road left and the Dream needs to be real now, or it just may never be. Recently, while touring a Craft Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, we ran across such an organization who's commitment is to bring alive the dreams of women who are terminally ill with cancer. There is no way our hearts could not be touched by their efforts and so we now introduce a brand new column to Dreams Alive, called Dream Weavers. Each issue, we will showcase an organization who's efforts and true desires are to help those of us who are less fortunate and who's focus is to bring their Dreams Alive.

Her Heart's Wish

Her Hearts Wish, charitable organization, metastatic ovarian cancer, radiation treatments, Dr. Rob Biter, Hershey Medical Center, Whitaker Center for Science and the ArtsThis charitable organization came into being because of a very special woman. Beth was dying with metastatic ovarian cancer. She worried about everyone else and dreamed of baking cookies one more time and visiting Cape May with her husband.

With the help of physical therapy and radiation treatments, Beth was able to bake cookies with her two young children. Wanting to help her with her other wish, her health team discovered there were no wish programs available to her as an adult. So they, along with the community, raised the funds to send them for a special Valentine's weekend to Cape May. She died very shortly after that but the gift of memories and her elation at having this dream come alive has been a comfort to her family, friends and those that cared for her.

She wanted other woman to see their dreams come alive - a true gift of hope and a legacy of happy memories for those left behind. Her last request was that an organization be formed to grant unfulfilled wishes to women who are terminally ill with cancer. She wanted others to experience the kind of happiness she had before the last weeks of her life.

Dr. Rob Biter, while in his third year of residency at the Hershey Medical Center, established "Her Heart's Wish". The funds were raised by presenting a public performance of Biters play Strangers at Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts. "Surgery is easy", Dr. Biter explains, "You can learn it in school. How to tie knots, how to make incisions, the intricacies of the human anatomy. The hard part is when you have to tell someone you can't do anything. When the only thing you have to offer is yourself." He proves that in all things, it is the gifts from the heart that make the greatest impact on our lives and are the only ones that really matter.

For a terminally ill woman, can you imagine the happiness and peace she experiences when her hearts desire is granted? For her loved ones, can you imagine the joy they feel, knowing she was truly happy at least one last time? These priceless moments are made possible by "Her Heart's Wish" and by people like yourself who care for humanity as a whole.
